Welcome to Gladstone

This little sub-region lies between Martinborough and Masterton. Wines from this region are consistently recognised for their complexity and elegance, grounded in the practice of caring for the land and the vines. Premium varietals such as the predominant Pinot Noir sit alongside lively Sauvignon Blancs, smooth textured Pinot Gris and age-worth Rieslings.

These expansive vineyards overlooking the banks of the Ruamahanga river are blessed with plenty of sunshine and free draining, ancient river terraces which bring clarity to the character of the wines. The stony silt loam soils contain clay components which treat their Pinot Noir very well. Many are among the first to have adopted and pioneered organic, biodynamic and sustainable principles.

more than vines

Set in some of the regions most picturesque farming land, with a photo opportunity at every turn. The region is in growth mode with an entrepreneurial spirit built on the foundations of a well established and pioneering wine heritage.

The region is home to Stonehenge Aotearoa, built by members of the Phoenix Astronomy Society. It is a modern adaptation of the Stonehenge ruins on the Salisbury Plain of England.

The sell-out Wairarapa Wines Harvest Festival is held in a sheltered riverside setting known as ‘the Cliffs’ each March and is a must add to your yearly calendar.
